Do you love learning new tips and tricks that help make your holiday shopping experience more enjoyable? Whether you’re stuck on finding that “perfect gift” for the person-who-has-everything on your list, or have your eye on the hottest item of the season, or even if you try to avoid shopping during the holidays altogether, there is something on this list for you.
Take some of the pressure off of yourself this holiday season by applying any of these strategies to your “to buy” list:
Double Down
I hate shopping during the holiday season when the stores are so busy and the choice merchandise so scarce. Instead, whenever the birthday of a friend or family member rolls around, I buy two presents–one for their birthday and one to keep in reserve for Christmas. My system works really well for me, and it spares me those Christmas Eve shopping frenzies.
Sentiment Before Sensible
When looking for the “right gift” shopping can become very difficult. I always advise clients to shop for the “right message” – and that makes gift giving much easier. You start with the message/sentiment, and then the right gift is much easier to find.
Some retailers offer the ability to shop now and ship later. That allows companies to make sure their items will be in stock.
Shop Online
Use unique name web searches on more than one search engine to find the best deal.
Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising. Utilize conversations with family and friends for recommendations on their favorite niche websites.
Shopping Applications
Hard to find items can be pretty random, so I like to start with my favorite shopping application. This is where all the major retailers’ sales ads first leak and they are tagged as individual deals. Shoppers are able to sort through by store, category and even price.
This also comes in handy for comparing similar deals between stores. Many companies offer an iPhone app to keep you in the know on the go. If I can’t find it here, I also search forums where other consumers post thousands of smart bargains that sell out fast, making them really hard to find during the busy holiday season.
