Snag It for Mac – Lurv it!

Ok I know that some of you Windows to Mac converts remember Snag It – it’s an easy, easy, easy way to do screen capture and light image editing.

I know guys, command-option-3 and 4…yes, they totally work and yes I still use them sometimes.  And yes I know they’re free and Snag it is not.  But here’s why it’s worth it for me…

Scrolling window capture.  Oh yes, that’s what I said.  Now, I really, really wish this worked in browsers other than Firefox (please please makers of Snag It – I use Chrome!) but you can capture an entire browser page in Firefox in an image by just clicking the arrow at the bottom of the browser window.

Why is this useful?  Well for me, it’s a really easy way to note corrections to site content, design changes on web pages, and show bugs that may be browser or OS specific that our tech guys can’t see.

Snag It is also a really quick and easy way to get images ready for documents, whether I captured them with it or not.  You can open images and quickly add effects, resize, and add text to them.  I know Photoshop/Illustrator snobs, you can do that with Adobe.  But I promise you can’t do the easy things nearly as quickly.

So long story short, Snag It saves me tons of time and effort – give it a shot.  There’s a free trial and it’s only $50.  If it saves you an hour you’ve paid for it right?

Wow, it's been a long time!

I haven’t written for this blog for a very long time.  Two lifetimes in electronic terms.  I’ve gotten untold numbers of gadgets between then and now, and untold software.  But let’s start what’s top of mind right now – my iPhone 4.

There’s a lot of talk about the antenna for iPhone 4, but that’s not the biggest issue for me.  My phone’s antenna behaves, but I’ve found that it lets my face dial and push buttons a lot too often.  It’s very annoying to be talking and have my face put me on mute, or try to make a face time call.

Other than the phone app, I love my new iPhone 4.  The video camera is awesome, the light is very handy and of course it’s a little quicker than my 3 Gs was.  I’m looking forward to a software update for that proximity sensor so that I can make uninterrupted calls though.

Ok I’m sure no one is reading at this point because I abandoned this site but I’m back and I do plan to write relatively often now!

Canon Elph SD1100 – Gadget Fav

[rating=5]

I thought long and hard before declaring a favorite gadget, but I think my little Canon Elph SD1000 has to be “the one.”  Not only does the new model come in pink, and I’ve been itching to review a pink gadget, but it’s a staple in my grab-and-go purse.

Canon SD1100

As you see in the post title, I’ve updated the name to the model you can now buy but the review will discuss the 1000 that I have.  You’ll see as I post, I’m primarily a geek on two fronts–computers and cameras.  I’m finally in the market for a DSLR – I’ve been pining for one for years – but this little guy will remain my faithful companion.

There are three main reasons for this – quality, size and price.  This little guy is a trooper.  I throw him in my purse and he never disappoints.  He’s always by my side ready to catch the quirky, the unexpected, and the fun.  Right now I carry the smallest purse ever and he tucks neatly inside with my wallet, iPhone and keys.  And unlike most of my gadgets, I’ve had this guy for three years and I’m not itching to trade him in for a newer, shinier and better model.  He still does his work really well.
