New MacHeist bundle is here – FREE!

Screen shot 2009-11-07 at 10.04.20 AM

MacHeist combines my love of cool apps with my love of free stuff.  They resurface every once in a while with a bundle of apps that’s usually about 10 apps for the price of one, but this time they have a “nano” bundle they’re running in the name of market research.

Basically you take the free bundle and they ask you one question:  how much would you have paid for it.  That’s it.  Then you get access to the whole thing.  But hurry, it’s only open for five days.

And there’s one catch.  One of the apps doesn’t open to everyone until they reach their goal.  So spread the word so that we can get our locked app :)

You can check out the MacHeist while it’s open, or sign up for information on the next heist by going to a very clean and pretty page here: http://www.macheist.com/

Gelaskins – FREE Art for Your Electronics

Gelaskins for your Blackberry

[rating=5]

Gelaskins really has my number – cute graphics, freebies and a deal; what’s not to love?

Plain Jane electronics are for boys and the boring.  We gizmo gals want color and style.  Gelaskins gets us, and has a great line of products to jazz up and coordinate a variety of our gadgets.  And they probably have stuff the guys would like too.

Mint.com – Online Tracking of…Online Spending

Mint.comAs some know, I had a bit of a startling experience with online money management software in the past.  See this Tech Crunch story for the details.  But it didn’t totally put me off the concept.  I like being able to see everything in one place, and it’s nice to get an overview of the whole financial situation.

I can track all those electronics purchases and it’s a good way to keep my spending balanced and in check.  When half your purchases are gadgets, you know you have a problem!

Mint lets you put in all your account information, and gives you an overview of your financial health and is really clear about where you’re spending your money.

You can categorize purchases, set up a budget and you get to see detail on all your accounts by logging into one place.  Oh, yes, and it’s all FREE.

They don’t store your account information – they just give you a way to log in from their interface and pull your account transactions into it.  So even if someone gets into your account, the worst that could happen is they see your balances–there’s no way to manipulate the data or gain access to the accounts; the passwords and usernames aren’t available in the Mint interface.

8 FREE Must Have Mac OS X Apps

essentials

I love the smell of a new Mac product.  There is something distinctly satisfying about opening the box of a new Macbook or any Mac accessory and smelling whatever it is they use to neatly seal them up.  I think Pavlov’s dogs might relate to what I’m talking about here.

But between the times when I get to open new toys, while I’m letting the credit card cool down from all that swiping, I go on the hunt for new applications that make me happy.  And at those times, nothing makes me happier than free.  So here is a list of my top picks in free applications–the ones that always make their way onto my new machines.  Those of you who have been around the Mac block a time or two will know these well, but for those of you new PC defectors, this list is for you.
